Continue readingChuck Darwin and Abe Lincoln share the exact same birthday (2/12/1809), so we have put displays up for both of them. In addition to sharing the same birthday and being extraordinary human beings, they also both had amazing beards: Lincoln’s Beard, Darwin’s Beard. The coincidences are eerie.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. This year we celebrate his 200th birthday. A display has been created featuring some marvelous books on President Lincoln. Stop by the library and check out the display in the main foyer display case. The display will be up for the month of February.
John Updike died on the 27th of this month from lung cancer. He was 76 years old. With over 50 books and hundreds of articles, Updike’s work has made a lasting impression on American letters. To commemorate Updike’s life, the Library has created a display of his books. Come check them out!
Yesterday an article was published in The New York Times listing some of the books that shaped President Obama’s life. We have created a display of some of those books at the Miller Information Commons Circulation desk. Stop by and check them out!

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, we have created a wonderful display of books in the front foyer display case of the Library. The display will be up for the remainder of January. Enjoy!
Professor Janice Gohm Webster, the 2008 recipient of the Lyman Award for Excellence in Teaching, will be sharing her Meaningful Books with us on Monday, Jan. 26th, 3:30 pm in the Miller Information Commons’ Vista Room. Refreshments will be served. Hoping to see you at the Library!
