Our beloved Interim Library Director, Susan Adkins, has stepped down to continue her journey in the great state of Wyoming. Her contributions to the Champlain library began in January 2016 as a part-time Reference and Instruction Librarian. By the 2016-2017 academic year, she was a Visiting Professor and a full-time Access Services Librarian by summertime. Over the years, she has continued to move through our library ranks; in 2019, she became Head of Reference and Instruction and was promoted to Associate Library Director by 2020. Susan then became Interim Library Director in the Fall of 2023 and was also promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor at the beginning of this academic year. Throughout her time at Champlain, Susan served on several committees and initiatives with a focus on continuous learning, unbiased access to information, and, more importantly, improving the experience of the students and the people she worked with.
Although we are sad to see her go, we know that wherever she ends up, she’ll leave a positive impact, just like she did for us in the Library. Thank you, Susan! And good luck in your next chapter of life!
As a result of Susan’s departure, we have some new library leadership announcements as well.
Sarah Camille Wilson is one of the more familiar faces in the library and has been promoted to the Head of Library Operations. In her new role, Sarah Camille will continue to be responsible for the Access Services Department and Interlibrary Loans, as well as overseeing the Miller Informations Commons facility. She will now represent the library in institutional meetings and approve the library’s finances.
Beth Dietrich previously held the role of Outreach and Engagement Librarian and has been promoted to the Head of Library Academics. Her new duties include managing activities and services that fall under library academics and instruction, providing managerial aid for the faculty librarians, and ensuring that all students and faculty are properly supported. She’ll still be supporting the Outreach and Engagement Department to provide further opportunities for the library to engage with the greater community.
Together, Beth and Sarah Camille will collaboratively lead the library team as we embark on the next chapter, always ready to recommend a good book or help a student in need.
